Mt. Pulaski 175th 1836 – 2011

       

Our 2011 “Year of Celebration” kicks off on New Year’s Eve—Dec. 31, 2010—on our town square. Plans are now being finalized. These will include food, drink, music, shopping, children’s activities, fireworks and a ball drop at mid-night.


The Mt. Pulaski 175th Committee hopes you will join us for the first in a series of events to be held throughout the year to help celebrate Mt. Pulaski’s 175th Birthday.


Many of our retail shops will be open as well as our courthouse. Our up-town restaurants will be open and the 175th committee will be serving a SOUP & CHILI SUPPER at the VFW Hall on the South Side of the Square.


Hours for all the activities will be from 5:00 pm until mid-night when our ball will drop and fireworks will be set off to begin our “Year of Celebration”.

       

Schedule of Events:


  • 5:00 to 9:00 Buff’s open for prime-rib dinner: reservations are requested
  • 5:00 to 8:00 Soup and Sandwich supper at VFW Hall sponsored by Hilltop Catering and the 175th Committee. Food prepared by Mike and Jenny Richner. Free will offering
  • 6:30 Children’s fireworks show on West side of square (weather permitting)
  • 6:00 many of our retail shops on the square will open or remain open
  • 6:00 Farmers Bank hosting open house providing traditional holiday refreshments and $175 drawing
  • 6:00 Historical Museum open for refreshments, tours and entertainment
  • 6:00 Courthouse open for tours and refreshments
  • 7:00 to 9:00 Children’s activities for 5th grade and younger at the old firehouse on the east side of the square hosted by the 175th Committee and Zion Lutheran Church. 
  • 7:00 to 11:30 Activities for 6th thru 12th grades at the Family Life Center hosted by the 175th Committee and the Christian Church. Ping-pong, basketball, pizza, snacks, music and a grab bag give away at the end of the evening. All kids need to be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • 9:00 to 11:00pm Music and entertainment will be offered at two locations beginning at 9:00 pm. At Buff’s Restaurant and at the VFW Hall and will last until 11:00 pm. You can bring your own beverage of your choice to Buffs or Coffee and tea will be available at VFW.
  • 11:30 all congregate on the west lawn of the courthouse for $175 drawings and memorial service to remember those who have passed away in 2010
  • Midnight -- New Years Eve Ball drop and Fireworks (weather permitting)

Other Information:


- In case of inclement weather, the kickoff celebration will be re-scheduled for Saturday evening, Jan. 8 (same hours for events). Information concerning postponement will be posted on our websites at www.mtpulaski175th.com & www.mtpulaskil.com. Also, all of our participating parties will be personally contacted.


-175th merchandise may be purchased this evening in several locations around the square including the Museum and VFW Hall. Shirts, sweatshirts etc. will be available at the store that was formally ‘Little Britches and Stitches’ on the east side of the square.


- Tickets for the June 30th, 2011 reception at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum will go on sale for the first time and may be purchased at the Historical Museum, VFW Hall and other retail shops on the square. Tickets are $35 and are limited.


- Our retail shops will all be open until 10:00 pm and some may stay open longer.


- Buff’s will remain open from 9:00 to 10:00 [following the dinner-by-reservation]


- $175 Historical Treasure Hunt Contest for students (6th grade - 12th grade) by Mt. Pulaski Historical Society
